What is homeopathy?

“The Highest ideal of cure is to restore health rapidly, gently and permanently.” – Dr. Samuel Hahnemanl

The word Homeopathy is derived from Greek word Homeos meaning “Simillar” and Pathos meaning “disease” or “suffering”.

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing suitable for everyone-: young and old. It is a system of medicine which involves treating an individual with highly diluted substances drawn from natural products such as plants and minerals. Homeopathy medicines known as remedies are given mainly in tablet form, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing.

Treating Like With Like

Homeopathy is based on the principle that ‘like cures like’, that is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. For example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to the principle, when (coffee) made into a homeopathic medicine, it can also be used to treat people with the above mentioned symptoms i.e insomnia.

The principle of ‘like cures like’ is very ancient, dating back to Hippocrates (460-377BC), but in its current form Homeopathy was developed by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann who lived from 1755 to 1843, He is known as a medical pioneer who worked tirelessly to improve medical practices and insisted the medicines be tested before use. Homeopathy has being used worldwide for more than 200 years.

Is Homeopathy Safe?

Safe And Effective

Homeopathy is perfectly safe. This is because Homeopathic medicines are made from very small amounts of active ingredients. 200 years of practice, trials and research have proved the safety of this system of alternate medicine for both humans and animals.

Gentle and Non- Addictive

Unlike some conventional drugs, Homeopathy medicines have no dangerous side effects and are non- addictive. Homeopathy is safe to use for babies, children, pregnant and breast feeding women, ideally under the supervision of the homeopathic practitioner.

Homeopathy And Conventional Medicine

Homeopathy cannot replace other forms of healthcare, but can be used as the treatment of first choice for a wide range of conditions. It can also be used in a complimentary way in other situations, for example, to support speedy recovery after operations.

Homeopathy doesn’t interfere with conventional medicines and should be seen as a complimentary treatment not as an alternative. Despite the differences in approach, Homeopathy and Conventional treatment can work very well alongside each other.
